Between the Loire estuary and the Bay of Bourgneuf, the Côte de Jade takes its name from the green tint the sea sometimes takes on along this stretch of coast. A landscape of low cliffs, coves and fine sandy beaches, linked by a network of cycle paths well suited to families.
An easy coastal loop
From Pornic, a lively seaside town in summer, the route follows the coast toward Préfailles to the west or La Bernerie-en-Retz to the east, on a mix of dedicated cycle paths and quiet coastal roads. Expect around 25 km and 150 m of cumulative climbing for a full loop — one of the gentlest profiles in the catalogue.
Pornic’s fishing harbour, overlooked by its château, makes for a picturesque starting point, with several coves and beaches along the way for a swim break.
Getting the ride right
The surface, mostly cycle path, works particularly well for a family outing without needing anything beyond a trailer or child seat for younger riders.
When to go
May to September, with June and September avoiding the peak-season crowds on the busiest beaches.
