Nuuksio National Park, about thirty minutes from Helsinki, offers gravel terrain typically Finnish: lakes, dense forest and bedrock outcrops of the Fennoscandian Shield, within easy reach of the capital.
A national park on the capital’s doorstep
From Espoo, the tracks head into the park’s forests toward Vihti, running alongside several lakes typical of the Finnish landscape and crossing areas of rock outcrops polished by glaciers. Expect around 30 km and 300 m of elevation gain for a loop representative of the park, on terrain that alternates rolling forest tracks with more technical sections over rock.
Getting the ride right
Versatile gravel tyres around 40-45mm suit most of the park’s forest tracks and rocky paths. The dense trail network makes it easy to adjust the distance depending on the time available from Helsinki.
When to go
May to September, with summer offering the best conditions and the longest days for exploring the park. Autumn, the season of colour, also remains rideable for a quieter outing.
