Past Angers, the route gradually leaves the château atmosphere behind for a more rural landscape, as the Loire noticeably widens on its approach to the estuary. Ingrandes, a former border town between Brittany and Anjou under the Ancien Régime, still recalls its role as a river customs post.

Champtoceaux, a village perched on a rocky promontory above the Loire, offers one of the finest viewpoints on the whole route over the river and its meanders, with a landscaped terrace ideal for a stop.

Arriving in Ancenis, a small wine town marking the entry into the Nantes vineyard region (muscadet), makes for a good break before the final stretch toward Nantes.
