This stage shifts mood noticeably along the way: after a few kilometres of forest, arriving at Hossegor and Capbreton marks the entry into one of the world’s great surf destinations. Noticeably more activity than deep in the Landes forest, and a much wider choice of accommodation and dining.
The route then follows the coast to the mouth of the Adour, with fine ocean views on a clear day.
Bayonne, at the confluence of the Adour and Nive rivers, marks the entry into the Basque Country and a clear cultural and architectural shift from everything before it.
