Flims Laax, in Graubünden, ranks among Switzerland’s biggest MTB bike parks. Served by gondola from the village of Laax, the resort combines groomed bike park runs with more committing singletrack heading toward the surrounding alpine pastures.
An alpine resort served by gondola
From Laax, the gondola gives access to a network of trails descending from the resort’s high alpine pastures toward the valley. Expect around 20 km of cumulative descending on a typical day, with 250 m of residual climbing, most of the elevation being handled by the lift. The terrain alternates groomed bike park runs in the lower section with more technical singletrack toward Flims and Trin.
Getting the ride right
The resort grades its trails by level, making it easy to build a progressive day starting on the blue and green runs before venturing onto the more committing red and black tracks in the alpine zones. The altitude and wind exposure in the resort’s upper section can catch riders off guard as the day goes on, even in high summer.
When to go
June to September, the season the lifts dedicated to mountain biking are open. July and August offer the best weather conditions, with alpine pastures in full bloom in the lower part of the resort.
Good to know
Flims and Laax offer a wide choice of accommodation geared toward mountain sports, with convenient access to the nearby Rhine Gorge (Ruinaulta) to combine mountain biking with a visit to “Switzerland’s Grand Canyon.”
