Perched at 1,800 m in the Font-Romeu resort in the Cerdagne, this bike park enjoys some of the best sunshine in the Pyrenees and a chairlift that lets you string together descent after descent without worrying about the climb back up — a different format from classic point-to-point MTB rides.
A varied terrain between pine forest and pasture
The trail network winds mainly through mountain pine forest, with a few openings onto Cerdagne pasture offering clear views of the Carlit massif. The variety of trails — from flowy singletrack under the trees to more technical sections with roots and loose rock — makes it easy to build a progressive day, stringing together several descents via the chairlift.
A typical day combines several laps, for roughly 15 km of trail ridden and 300 m of pedalled elevation gain between lift rides — not counting the cumulative descent, which far exceeds that figure thanks to the chairlift.
How to approach the ride
The bike park is marked by difficulty level (green, blue, red, black), which makes it easy to build a suitable programme and progress through the day. Red and black trails call for solid technical skills (roots, off-camber sections, jumps on some lines): it’s worth starting on easier trails to get a feel for the terrain before tackling the most demanding ones.
The altitude (1,800 m and above) can bring noticeable temperature swings between morning and afternoon: bring an extra layer for the first laps.
When to go
The bike park generally operates from June to September, when the chairlift runs for summer use. July-August offers the best trail conditions but also the busiest crowds; June and September often mean quieter trails.
Good to know
Font-Romeu, a resort well known for elite altitude training, has a solid network of accommodation and rental shops used to the bike park’s clientele, including e-MTBs for longer touring days elsewhere in the Cerdagne.
