Jasná, below Chopok in the Low Tatras, is Slovakia’s largest ski resort, but its summer bike park has become a genuine MTB destination, served by chairlift up to the summit.
An area served by chairlift up to Chopok
From Demänovská Dolina, the chairlift gives access to a network of trails descending toward the valley from the summit of Chopok, through the conifer forests typical of the Low Tatras. Expect around 20 km of cumulative descending on a typical day, with 500 m of residual climbing, most of the elevation being handled by the lift. The terrain alternates groomed bike park runs with more technical alpine singletrack.
Getting the ride right
The resort grades its trails by level, making it easy to build a progressive day starting on the more accessible trails before venturing onto more committing singletrack. Chopok’s relatively modest altitude doesn’t rule out changeable weather as the day goes on.
When to go
June to September, the season the lifts dedicated to mountain biking are open. Summer offers the best weather conditions, with the option to combine the ride with a visit to the karst caves in the neighbouring valley.
Good to know
Demänovská Dolina and Liptovský Mikuláš offer a wide choice of accommodation geared toward mountain sports, with convenient access to the rest of the Low Tatras for an MTB stay that extends beyond a single resort.
