MTB

Kitzbühel, a Tyrolean resort world-famous for the Hahnenkamm downhill ski race, has established itself in summer as a genuine MTB destination, with an area served by gondola from the village up to the surrounding alpine pastures.

An alpine area served by gondola

From Kitzbühel, the gondola gives access to a network of trails descending toward the valley from the area’s high alpine pastures. Expect around 20 km of cumulative descending on a typical day, with 300 m of residual climbing, most of the elevation being handled by the lift. The terrain alternates groomed bike park runs in the lower section with more technical alpine singletrack toward Kirchberg in Tirol.

Getting the ride right

The area grades its trails by level, making it easy to build a progressive day starting on the more accessible trails before venturing onto more committing tracks. The altitude and wind exposure in the upper section can catch riders off guard as the day goes on, even in high summer.

When to go

June to September, the season the lifts dedicated to mountain biking are open. July and August offer the best weather conditions, with alpine pastures in full bloom in the lower part of the area.

Good to know

Kitzbühel offers a wide choice of accommodation year-round, with convenient access to Kirchberg in Tirol and the rest of the region for an MTB stay that extends beyond a single resort.
