Plan de Corones, an iconic Dolomites summit topping out at 2,275 m, has become one of the most respected bike parks in the Alps. Served by several bike-equipped cable cars, it offers a trail network dropping into three different valleys, with views over the UNESCO-listed Dolomite ranges.
A bike park spanning three valleys
From Olang, the cable car climbs to the summit, where several descent trails branch off toward Olang, Reischach or San Vigilio di Marebbe. Expect around 20 km of cumulative descent over a typical day, with 300 m of residual climbing (most of the elevation gain happens on the lift). Terrain ranges from technical singletrack through forest to smoother alpine-meadow sections, with views of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo on a clear day.
Getting the ride right
The bike park grades its trails from blue to black, making it easy to build a progressive day without committing straight away to the most technical sections. The many e-MTB rental shops on site also make it possible to mix cable-car descents with some pedal-powered climbing.
When to go
June to September, when the lifts dedicated to mountain biking are running. July-August is the busiest stretch, with the upside of fully melted snow even on the highest trails.
Good to know
Olang (Valdaora), at the foot of the massif, has a wide choice of accommodation geared toward active sports tourism, with convenient access to Bruneck/Brunico, the larger town in the Val Pusteria, to extend the trip.
