The coast between Pyrgos and Governor’s Beach, off the beaten path from Limassol’s main resorts, reveals a landscape unusual for Cyprus: tall white chalk cliffs towering over beaches of black volcanic sand.
The route
From Pyrgos, the coastal road rolls along the shoreline toward Governor’s Beach and then Psematismenos, covering about 24 km with 250 m of combined elevation gain. The terrain stays moderate, with a few short climbs near the chalk headlands separating the different beaches.
How to approach the ride
A standard road bike handles this rolling route comfortably, with no particular technical difficulty. The road, two lanes but lightly trafficked outside peak summer, makes for an easy ride while taking in the coastline.
When to go
October to April, since summer heat and crowds make the ride less pleasant during peak tourist season. Spring and autumn bring particularly flattering light over the chalk cliffs.
Good to know
Governor’s Beach itself is worth a swim stop at the foot of the cliffs, reachable directly from the coastal road. Psematismenos, a typical village a little further inland, has a few traditional taverns for a meal at the end of the ride.
