This first stage leaves the Breton coast within the first few kilometres and heads inland. After Roscoff and its market-gardening region, the route crosses Morlaix through its dramatic steep-sided valley and viaduct, before climbing gradually toward the Monts d’Arrée.
It’s the only genuinely hilly stage of La Vélodyssée: nothing like an alpine pass, but a real profile with a few sustained climbs, quite different from the flatness of the rest of the route.
Carhaix-Plouguer marks the entry into the Nantes-Brest canal basin, which will guide most of the following stages southeast.
