This stage marks the section shared with La Vélodyssée, which follows exactly the same towpath between Carhaix and Pontivy (in the opposite direction). The route follows the Blavet upstream, then the canalised Doré and Hyères, toward the canal’s watershed point.

Rohan, a small town of character midway through, takes its name from one of the most powerful families of the Breton nobility; Gouarec, a little further on, is a peaceful riverside village where many cyclists stop for a picnic by the water, away from any busy road.

Arriving in Carhaix-Plouguer marks an important geographical turning point: this is where the Canal de Nantes à Brest finally leaves the Atlantic watershed (Blavet, Vilaine) and switches to that of the Brest roadstead, via the canalised Aulne.
