This stage, the shortest of the route, follows the Oust and then the canalised Blavet through preserved rural countryside, dotted with small locks and often flower-decked lock-keeper’s houses, carefully maintained by the canal’s managers.

The stretch crosses the rural communes of Guern and Séglien, deep in inland Morbihan, a lightly touristed area where the towpath is mostly shared with a few local anglers and walkers.

Pontivy, at the finish, offers a striking architectural contrast with the villages passed through so far: the town was largely rebuilt under the First French Empire to become “Napoléonville”, a military base meant to protect access to the canal, with wide avenues and a monumental barracks still visible today.

Indicative distance for this stretch.
